Roland Gutierrez and Dean Ledet first met at the 1985 Texas Center Convention. Through the years they became friends. In 2005 Roland imported a family of pigeons he called his Rijsdijk family from Holland. Intrigued, Dean purchased a young pair in 2006, from Roland, to cross into his Van Loon/46 line. Dean’s first success with this cross came when he won 1st at the 2008 Texas Center Convention Race. Roland and Dean soon realized that they had common goals. Becoming closer friends, Roland boasts about getting the best of Dean in a trade before the 2010 Texas Center Convention. Seems like each of them had top producing cocks; Dean’s was a double grandson to the “Kannibaal” and Roland’s was a top producing son of “Charley”. To make a long story short, Dean won the race and Roland got the bird. Both came out ahead in their breeding loft, as both cocks have bred winners. After that they started entering a few races together. By 2011, the two decided to pool their resources and purchase a DeRauw/Sablon hen. “Little Paola” is a granddaughter to “Albert” and “Paola”. During Mardi Gras that year, they decided to officially form a partnership to secure even better birds. In July 2012, the new partners decided they needed to venture to Europe if they were to secure the best birds they could find. With the help of their good friend Marcel Sangers, they did just that. Dean and Roland visited top lofts over there like Bertie Camphuis, Harm Vredeveld, Elwine Petrie, and even Garard Koopman in Holland. Then they went over to Belgium to meet Paul and Julle Roziers, Koen Brackenier (winner 1st National Brive while they were there), as well as Eddy Grootjans on the way to visit PIPA. After visiting these top lofts, Roland and Dean decided that the Bertie Camphuis birds were the best suited for them. They also brought back some Rozier birds to try too. Most recently, the partners have ventured out again and brought in some Heremans birds from some of best blood in Heremans’ loft.
